Lesson 2 of 8

Lesson 2 · Listing directories

See what is around you

The ls command shows what a directory contains. Plain ls hides names beginning with a dot. The -a option shows all entries, while -l adds a detailed long format. Short options can be combined after one dash.

Examplels -l /etc

This lists a different directory in long format. The same command can target your current directory, and adding -a reveals hidden dotfiles.

Try it

Reveal the hidden practice note in your home directory and include long-format details.
